A MOTHER WHO GIVES HER LIFE FOR THEIR CHILD
A MOTHER WHO STARVES TO FEED HER CHILD
A MOTHER WHO IS WILLING TO SLEEP IN THE COLD FOR THEIR CHILD,
A MOTHER WHO MAKES HER CHILDREN FEEL SAFE IN HER ARMS,

For Ashraful

Dear Ashraful,
You have inspired me
to write my first poem in Bengali;
our mother tongue.
So this poem is for you.

This ugly barbed wire fences of border
have spoiled
our possible meet and gossips at noon
long ago.

Or before that when (1971) an war broke out
between east and west
scattering confused people away from home
into different directions,
possibility of our meeting at noon ended.

Or long before that
possibility of this meeting diminished
when (1947) boundaries of new born countries
were clearly demarcated.

Or even before that
when you and me jointly killed this possibility
long long ago (1905) being affected by
the mockery of partition of Bengal.

Otherwise in this holiday today
as one of your neighbor
I would have been dining in your courtyard
as a self-declared guest
just like our forgotten ancestors.

My love for you. Stay well.

A Daughter's Wish

I wish I had a mother,
That would love me the way she should.
I wish I had a mother,
To accept me for who I am.
I wish I had a mother,
Who wouldn’t belittle me the way she does.
I wish I had a mother,
Who would trust me some of the time.
I wish I had a mother,
That would listen to me when I’m in pain.
I wish I had a mother,
Who would trust me just abit.
I wish I had a mother,
Who would help me when I asked.
I wish I had a mother,
Who didn’t criticize me the way she does.
I wish I had a mother,
Who would understand the pain she’s caused
I wish I had a mother,
Who didn’t have to be right all the time.
I wish I had a mother,
Who would see the good that I’ve done.
I wish I had a mother,
Who wouldn’t make me beg for her love.

  100.

I am the second son

I am the second son
Of my mother
My father is no more.

My mother is with me
I am with my mother
My father is no more.

I am speaking to my mother
In her own language
That are sweet and smooth.

My mother's language is
Giving me new life always
I love my mother.

My mother is here with me
And showing me this world
I love my mother.

For a better world
My mother is telling me
To do something more.

See, my mother is here
At the center of my life my journey
From my mother to my mother this is my journey.
