  797.

Greenland

More than one-thousand years ago
as historians have said:
In the chill icelandic region
lived a man named Eric the Red,
a chiefton's son born and bred.
Eric committed a villainous crime,
and ours is not to reason why!
But rumours suggest a homicide.

Then westward over the sea he sailed,
over miles of terrain Eric trailed.
With confidence well out of hiding
Eric discovered a large dream island.
Greenland, named by Eric himself...
an island with hope of future wealth.
In later years ~ re-explored,
A gift to the world from Our Dear Lord.

  798.

Greetings at Christmas

It never seems like Christmas
Without a layer of snow -
The peace and silence that it brings
Beneath the moonlight's glow.

O to see the little children
Tobogganing down the slopes
Jumping for joy as snowflakes fall
Fulfilling their dreams and hopes!

As they build a pure white snowman
And sing carols in harmony,
We all give thanks for a layer of snow
It's a magical mystery.

Grief and Sorrow

He saw no moon, no stars aglow

No rainbow in the sky.

Blindness was real, life stood still

And oft' he wondered why...

Once he was free, his eyes could see

The blushing rose and the butterfly

But now he cries a river of tears

As the minutes and hours go by.

  800.

Guilt and Sorrow

'Twas a first time crime of petty larceny
and how they regretted their teenage vice
Not a prison Sentence surely...
Would not 'fines and fees' suffice?

Prisons today are overburdened
capturing our thoughts once or twice!
Teenage hope for leniency tells a story
Would not 'fines and fees' suffice?
