Into the Sunset
Pain and Happiness, Suffering and Joy
They walk together, arm in arm
Inseparable companions, lovingly engaged
Along the seas sometimes smooth, sometimes rocky
Yet always beautiful
Shore.

Jesus In Sales
I dreamed Jesus was a salesman
In suit and tie
Briefcase in one hand
Cell phone in the other
Calling a client to close another deal
Standing in a boardroom
Preaching about how the meek would inherit
Nothing
And blessed be the greed-makers.
He changed all the water into wine
With a laugh and a sneer
Took a cruise on his yacht, stepped overboard
And just when it seemed he would walk on water
He sank.
Thank God or I would have lost all faith
In dreams.

Jettison Livingston Jones
Jettison Livingston Jones
Was an artist
In the truest of sense
A garbage collector by trade
He worked dutiful years sorting the refuse
Of wasted lives
Shoveling
Pitching
Compacting
Discarding
The useless, the mundane, the forgotten
And every night he went home
To a warm stove in a tiny cottage
Kissed the woman who stayed by his side
Through many a long, tormented hour
Devoting his last ounce of strength
To the art he so cherished
A masterpiece of soul, precious gift to the world
More radiant than the portraits of Leonardo
The burgeoning statues of Michaelangelo
Or the staggering stars of Van Gogh
The careful, steadfast tending
Of three delicate, priceless
Children.

Jobber Wocky
Walked onto the job
A smile for the ladies
A knife in the backs of his mates
Doing as little as possible
Pawning responsibility on dupes
Too dull, or incorrigibly nice
To recognize the twisting screw of his
Usury, yet always the
Exemplary employee when
The boss was near
Eager to please, willing and impeccably
Able, his promotion though
Completely undeserved, should have come as
No surprise, when those who were
Dedicated, qualified and reliable
Were unceremoniously passed over in service of
